Fighting continued in Sudan as regional leaders arrived Wednesday, July 12, in the Egyptian capital Cairo for a summit on the crisis, just days after the East African IGAD bloc held its own summit in Addis Ababa.
Explosions were heard the same night in the Burri area, east of General Command.
Senior officials held a preparatory session Wednesday and the presidential summit is expected to begin Thursday with the participation of leaders of Egypt, Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Side meetings among the principals have also already taken place, including the one shown in the video above between President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi and the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, as well as a meeting between South Sudan’s Salva Kiir, and Eritrea’s Isaias Afwerki, which was attended by Egypt’s foreign minister.
