High tensions in West Kordofan as RSF seek dominance in the state
Sporadic gunfire was heard in al-Udayyah in West Kordofan State today, December 16, after a convoy of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) entered the town.
Al-Udayyah is 35 km northwest of the state capital al-Fula and 85 km northeast of the 22nd Infantry Division headquarters in Babanusa.
Members of the RSF on social media claimed they captured the army’s garrison in al-Udayyah (12.0294903, 28.221461), while pro-army media said the defenders withdrew into the neighborhood because they were outnumbered.
We were not able to independently confirm the outcome of the fighting.
Pro-SAF media also alleged that the militia entered the looted the market and the Zakat Office, targeting the city on a Saturday because it was market day.
