Darfur movements coordinate war plans against RSF
Two-day Merowe meeting targets RSF control of Darfur states
Leaders of several Darfur armed movements met at Barkal area in Merowe, Northern State, last week to coordinate action against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which fully controls four of the five Darfur states.
The “Barkal Forum of the Darfur Protection Alliance,” held April 25-26, 2024, was convened by Greater Darfur Governor Minni Arko Minawi, who leads a faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A). Eight Darfur armed movements attended in total, including two factions of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), another SLM/A faction under Mustafa Tambur, and breakaway groups of the SLM-Transitional Council and the Gathering of Sudan Liberation Forces.
