This map shows the areas of control of the Rapid Support Forces (red) and Sudan Armed Forces (green) in Khartoum State and neighboring southern states.
Since early in the war, the RSF already controlled some northern parts of Jezira State, but they launched a significant attack toward the capital Wad Madani overnight on December 14-15, arriving in the outskirts of Abu Haraz and Hantoob at dawn.
On the previous day, they also occupied the town of Abu Guta, in the state’s northwest, an attack that may have been diversionary. The surprise RSF attack caused panic in Wad Madani and thousands of people fled.
