SLM-MM demands participation in U.S.-led Geneva talks
Former rebel group accuses Washington of marginalization in ongoing conflict
A major Sudanese armed group has demanded inclusion in upcoming U.S.-led ceasefire talks, accusing Washington of marginalizing it in the country's devastating civil war between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A), led by Mini Arko Minnawi, is a key player in the conflict, which erupted on April 15, 2023. The group, along with the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) led by Jibril Ibrahim, joined the war in support of the SAF against the RSF last November, after previously maintaining neutrality.
