Al-Burhan inspects troops in cities south of Khartoum
The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) Commander-in-Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan visited Wad Madani in Jazeera State earlier this week, where he spoke to troops at the 1st Infantry Division, visited wounded soldiers at a military hospital, and met with state government officials about the situation in the state.
The visit signals the importance of the southern front, south of Khartoum, which runs across the northern part of Jazeera State and White Nile State, bordering Khartoum State. Wad Madani and neighboring White Nile State could soon become a gathering point for thousands of troops currently in training in other parts of Sudan.
Prior to arriving in Wad Madani, the commander-in-chief made a similar visit to Gedaref, where he likewise spoke to troops and also marched through the streets of the city with a large entourage, amid cheers from army supporters.
